Making local discovery feel visual
I’m exploring an alternative to the familiar directory: a browsable wall where local businesses feel present before someone knows exactly what to search for.
What I’m exploring
Most local-business tools begin with a query and return a list. That works when someone already knows what they need, but it leaves little room for curiosity or accidental discovery.
The wall treats businesses as a visual landscape while keeping search, category, and location controls close at hand.
Decision so far
The interface leads with the wall, not a search form. Repeated tile sizes create a steady browsing rhythm, while a persistent header keeps more direct paths available.
The visual density is intentional, but the navigation remains restrained so the businesses carry the experience.
What I’m watching next
- Whether people understand what makes a tile interactive.
- How much visual density the wall can support on smaller screens.
- When map or list views should become available as alternate modes.
